The Story of Naaman

Several Sundays ago while in church our pastor Jim Kelly told the story of Naaman 2 Kings Chapter 5, who was the commander of a great army for the King of Aram.He was a leader, and highly regarding in this country with wealth and responsibility but he was a leper. He sought healing after he was told about Elisha the prophet. Elisha refused to meet him personally but sent word to go wash in the Jordan River. The Jordan was not highly regarded as a pristine river.
The recommendation to wash in the Jordan River irritated Naaman and he refused citing cleaner rivers that would be more suitable. The servants of Naaman reasoned with him that if he had been told to something really difficult he would have aggressively gone for it but something as simple and humbling as washing in a dirty river would be more a test of his faith. As the story goes he did wash in the muddy Jordan and he was healed.
How did it affect me? I too like Naaman have been given the great opportunity to lead some of the employees in our company and I too have been given the opportunity to succeed and live a successful life but I too need healing and when he asked for people to come forward and accept healing I too felt this was my chance. I had not spurned offers before but I had not sought them as aggressively as I should have and if I was like Naaman, I needed to let go of pride and hesitation and plunge in.
I can tell you with all honesty that day I felt a change in my body and in my belief that I too was cleansed. It may sound strange to you but I know what I felt. I know what I feel now and it is different since that day.
